Eranthis hyemalis

Winter Aconite
Bulbs and bulblike plants, Perennials

Native to Europe and Asia. Charming plant that reaches to 2–8 in. high, blooming in late winter or early spring. Single yellow flowers resembling buttercups are about 1 1/2 in. wide, with five to nine petal-like sepals; each bloom sits on a single, deeply lobed, bright green leaf that looks like a ruff. Round basal leaves divided into narrow lobes emerge immediately after the flowers bloom. All traces of the plant disappear by the time summer arrives.
