HELICHRYSUMThe best known species in this genus is Helichrysum bracteatum, the annual strawflower used in fresh and dry arrangements. Most of the species of this genera, though less familiar, are choice plants for landscape use.

Helichrysum petioloare, or licorice plant, is originally from South Africa. It grows 1 1/2 to 3 ft. high, with trailing stems to 4 ft. White, woolly, inch-long leaves; insignificant flowers. A licorice aroma is sometimes noticeable—in hot, still weather, for example, or when leaves are dry.
