Native to Texas, northern Mexico. Grows 12 to 20 ft. tall and wide, with light green leaves twice divided into many tiny leaflets. Showy spring flowers are fluffy yellow balls 1 in. across; they are followed by flattened, bean-like pods 6 to 10 in. long. Useful tree for mini-oasis or transition between cultivated garden and native desert. Good choice as small patio tree. Evergreen in milder winters; deciduous otherwise.
