Australian native hardy to about 23°F/–5°C. An upright grower, to 4–8 ft. tall and wide, with deeply cut, rough-textured dark green foliage. The glossy-petaled flowers resemble hibiscus blooms and can reach 4 in. across, in shades of lilac-blue to deep purple. The plant blooms off and on all year; individual flowers last 2 or 3 days. Pinch or prune to keep it compact. Variable from seed. ‘Santa Cruz’ is a deep blue selection; ‘Monterey Bay’ and ‘Mood Indigo’ are deeper blue. Disease-resistant ‘Leon’s Purple Delight’ has purple flowers. ‘White Swan’ has white blossoms.
