Muhlenbergia capillaris

Pink Muhly
Poaceae (Gramineae)
Ornamental grasses and grasslike plants

MUHLENBERGIA

Narrow-leafed grasses that are large enough and showy enough to stand out in the garden. Except as noted, they are evergreen in mild winters but turn tan or brown with hard freezes. They are very drought-tolerant plants but look better and grow larger if given some supplemental water.

Muhlenbergia capillaris

From the eastern U.S. Dark green foliage forms a mound to 3 ft. tall and 6 ft. wide; airy plumes of feathery reddish flowers rise an additional 2 1/2 ft. in fall. Evergreen in low desert areas. Cut plants back in late winter for fresh new growth in spring.
