PAXISTIMA

Low-growing shrubs prized for small, shiny, leathery leaves. Flowers are insignificant. Hardiness and compact habit make them useful as low hedges, edgings, or groundcover in cold-winter areas. Lower stems root when they contact the soil. Best in well-drained soil.

Paxistima canbyi

Native to the mountains of the eastern U.S. Slowly makes a mat to 1 ft. high and 3–5 ft. wide. Narrow, dark green leaves grow to about 3/4 in. long.
