China. Grows 15 to 20 ft., but can be held to 4 to 8 ft. New culms emerge green, but turn black in their second year. This is a running bamboo that shows more or less vertical growth. Can be grown in containers. Flexible canes tend to lean over, even to the ground, in heavy rain or snow.
