Poaceae (Gramineae)
Turf Grasses

POA

Native to Europe but naturalized in North America. Poa pratensis is the best-known cool-season lawn grass. Leaves of all have a distinctive boat-prow tip.

Poa pratensis

This is a beautiful, fine-textured, blue-green lawn grass that comes in many selections. At its best in cold-winter climates, but often used as a nurse grass in blends with other turf grasses such as perennial rye. Mow at 2–2 1/2 in. (dwarf forms can be mowed lower). Use alone or in a mixture with other grasses.
