POLEMONIUM

Lush rosettes of finely divided, ferny, light to medium green foliage. Blossom stalks are typically leafy and bear clusters of bell-shaped flowers in spring or early summer. Good under trees. Grow from seed or from divisions made after bloom or in spring; give well-drained soil. Many species are choice wildflowers from Western mountains.

Polemonium pulcherrimum

Native from Alaska to California. Sprawling or erect, to 1 ft. tall and wide. Crowded clusters of 1/2-in. flowers in blue shades or white, often with a yellow throat. Good in shaded rock gardens.
