Perennials

POLEMONIUM

Lush rosettes of finely divided, ferny, light to medium green foliage. Blossom stalks are typically leafy and bear clusters of bell-shaped flowers in spring or early summer. Good under trees. Grow from seed or from divisions made after bloom or in spring; give well-drained soil. Many species are choice wildflowers from Western mountains.

Polemonium reptans

Native to the eastern U.S. Weak-stemmed plant grows to 1–1 1/2 ft. tall and 1 ft. wide; light blue, 3/4-in. flowers. Better known than the species is heavy-blooming ‘Blue Pearl’; it grows to 10 in. tall and 1 1/2 ft. wide and bears bright blue blossoms. Good choice for a shaded rock garden.
