POLYSTICHUM

Hardy, symmetrical, easy-to-grow plants with evergreen fronds, except in the case of P. braunii. Among the most useful and widely planted ferns; combine well with other plants. Do best in rich, well-drained soil. Use in shady beds, along house walls, and in mixed woodland plantings.

Native to the northern latitudes of America and Asia. Grows to 1–3 ft. tall and wide. New growth is silvery green, maturing to dark green. Deciduous in colder areas. Once established, can tolerate some dryness.
