Hardy, symmetrical, easy-to-grow plants with evergreen fronds, except in the case of P. braunii. Among the most useful and widely planted ferns; combine well with other plants. Divisilobum group features named varieties with a particularly lacy appearance. Plantlets form on midribs of older fronds on several types of soft shield fern; these can be detached and planted.
