Native to China, Japan, Korea. Grows 6 to 10 ft. tall when controlled, to 18 ft. tall when allowed to grow freely. Its 3/4-in., stiffly erect culms have one branch at each joint, and its large leaves come with long, pointed tails. This rnning bamboo makes a rampant, thick hedge in mild-winter climates, but it’s a slow spreader where winters are cold, forming dense, erect clumps.
