Pseudosasa japonica

Arrow Bamboo
Poaceae (Gramineae)
Bamboo, Ground covers

Native to China, Japan, and Korea. Grows to 6–10 ft. tall when controlled, to 18 ft. tall when allowed to grow freely. Its 3/4-in., stiffly erect culms have one branch at each joint, and its large leaves come with long, pointed tails. This running bamboo makes a rampant, thick hedge in mild-winter climates, but it’s a slow spreader where winters are cold, forming dense, erect clumps.
