Native to Australia and the South Pacific. Small feather palms with slender, ringed trunks and well-defined crown shafts (the smooth, usually green upper portion of the trunk, formed by overlapping bases of newer leaves). Leaflets are toothed at the tip. Often produce red fruit in warmest frost-free climates. Grow in well-drained soil.

Native to New Guinea. Grows 10 to 25 ft. tall, 12 to 15 ft. wide, with several clustered trunks. Leaves to 6 1/2 ft. long. Good large understory plant. Often grown in tubs.
