ARCHONTOPHOENIX

Mature palms are handsome, stately, difficult to transplant. Grow to 50 ft. or taller, with a 10–15-ft. spread. Where winds are strong, plant in lee of buildings to prevent damage. Young trees can’t take frost; mature plants may stand 28°F/–2°C. They tolerate shade and can grow for many years grouped under tall trees. Old leaves shed cleanly, leaving smooth green trunks. Feathery leaves.
