Native to the mountains and foothills of California and Oregon, especially along the coast. Erect growth to 6–10 ft. Clusters of fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers bloom after leafout. Mid to late-season bloom. Color varies from white to pinkish white with yellow blotch; some are heavily marked in carmine rose. Hardy to –5°F/–21°C.
