Rhoicissus capensis
Evergreen Grape
Vitaceae
Evergreen, Ground covers, Vines
South Africa. Tuberous-rooted vine, growing slowly to 15 ft. or more. Scallop-toothed leaves are roundish to kidney shaped, something like those of true grape in size and appearance. New stems and leaves are covered with red hairs that give them a rosy rust color. Mature leaves are a bold, coppery-tinged light green on upper surface, hairy and rust colored beneath. Flowers are insignificant.
Makes a good overhead screen or ground cover in frost-free regions. Fine houseplant; tolerates low light.
