RHYNCHELYTRUM

Short-lived African natives. Narrow blue-green leaves are erect, then arching, forming clumps 1 ft. high and slightly wider. From these rise 2-ft. flower spikes that open deep pink to purplish red and gradually fade to light pinkish tan. These are harmless weeds in the tropics, but in mild-winter climates of the West, they can reseed themselves, and plants may live over from year to year. In cold regions, treat as annuals; or pot up divisions and protect them during winter.
