Arctotheca calendula
Cape Weed
Asteraceae (Compositae)
Ground covers, Perennials
South Africa. A tough, easy-to-grow evergreen ground cover. Plants spread by runners to make a thick cover 6–12 in. high; space 1 1/2 ft. apart for fast cover. Elongated gray-green leaves are deeply cleft.Yellow, 2-in. daisies bloom most of the year, peaking in spring. Not fussy about soil. Suffers some frost damage when temperature dips just below freezing, but recovers quickly. Not for small areas, since plants can easily spread out of bounds (though they’re easy to remove). Good on hillsides. Mow shaggy plantings to tidy them.
