Stately, symmetrical feather palms. Tall, smooth gray trunk is marked with rings and topped by a green crownshaft formed by the overlapping bases of the feathery fronds. Grows at a moderate to fast rate. Does best in moist, well-drained soil. Good wind and salt resistance. Can be used as street or avenue trees, to frame large buildings, in groups with other palms. Looks especially majestic planted in rows.

Nataive to Cuba. Grows 50 to 75 ft. high, 30 ft. wide. Trunk is swollen at base, tapering toward top, sometimes swollen toward middle. Bright green, 10- to 20-ft.-long fronds arch gracefully in all directions.
