SABAL

Slow-growing fan palms; some have trunks, some do not. Mature plants bear large clusters of tiny flowers among the leaves. Tolerate salt spray. All withstand 20°F/–7°C.

Sabal minor

Native to southeastern U.S. Grows to 3–6 ft. tall and 10 ft. wide. Green to blue-green, 6-ft. leaves. Tree is usually trunkless but sometimes has a short trunk. Old leaves fold at base and hang down like a closed umbrella.
