SCABIOSA

Resembling a pincushion full of needles, each Scabiosa flower has stamens that protrude well beyond the curved flower heads. Bloom begins in midsummer, continues until frost if flowers are deadheaded or cut regularly. Good in mixed or mass plantings. Excellent cut flowers.

Perennial, native to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Grows to 2 ft. tall and wide. Finely cut gray-green leaves. Flowers to 3 in., in lavender-blue, pink, or white; almost all year in mildest areas. ‘Butterfly Blue’ (deep lavender-blue) and ‘Pink Mist’ (bright pink) are superior selections.
