Evergreen, Shrubs

Native to Hawaii; widespread in the Pacific Islands and China. There are many forms of this plant, from groundcovers to medium-size shrubs to shrubs 10 ft. tall and nearly as wide. Roundish, bright green to silvery green leaves to 1/2 in. long. Blooms all year, producing hibiscus-like, 1/2–1-in. flowers in colors ranging from yellow and orange to dull red. Blossoms are used in leis. Good wind tolerance. Does best in well-drained, rocky or sandy soil.
