Native to coastal California, Oregon. Grows to 4 in. to 2 ft. tall and 6 in. to 2 ft. wide. Green or bluish green leaves. Purple to bluish purple, 1/2-in. flowers appear in spring. Several named forms and hybrids are available. Many of them, including ‘Devon Skies’ (4–6 in. tall), are dwarf. S. idahoense macounii ‘Album’ has white flowers.
