Annuals, Perennials, Vines

ASARINA

Climbing, sprawling, or trailing tender perennials with twining stems and triangular to ovate leaves. Tubular flowers, borne singly in leaf axils, flare at the mouth like snapdragon (Antirrhinum, a close relative). Often grown as an annual; plants from early sowings will bloom in late spring and through the summer. Grow on a trellis, in window boxes or hanging baskets, or as groundcover. Need good drainage.

Asarina antirrhiniflora

Grows 3–6 ft. tall, with 1-in., yellow throated flowers in lavender, violet, blue, and red. A mixed-color seed strain offers red-and-yellow or blue-and-white flowers.
