Chinese Windmill Palm
Palms and cycads
Medium-size, very hardy fan palm (to 10°F/–12°C or lower). Moderate to fast growth to 30 ft. high, 10 ft.wide. Trunk is usually thicker at top than at bottom and is covered with dense, blackish fiber; as trunk elongates, fiber falls off its lower portion. Toothed, 1/2 -ft. stalks carry 3-ft.- wide leaves. May look untidy in high winds. May be sold as Chamaerops excelsa. Young plants can be grown indoors in bright indirect light; plant them outdoors when they become too big.
Probably one of hardiest palms; has survived brief (but not prolonged) temperature drops to 0°F/°
