Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri’

Arching or drooping stems 3–6 ft. long. Shiny, bright green, needle-like leaves, 1 in. long, in bundles. Bright red berries. Popular for hanging baskets or containers, indoors and out. Train on a trellis; the plant climbs by means of small hooked prickles. Use as a billowy groundcover where temperatures stay above 24°F/–4°C. Grows in ordinary or even poor soil. Will tolerate dryness of indoors. Sometimes sold as Asparagus sprengeri. The form sold as ‘Sprengeri Compacta’ or Asparagus sarmentosus ‘Compacta’ is denser, with shorter stems.
