ZEPHYRANTHES

Clumps of foot-long, bright green, grassy leaves give rise to slender, hollow stems, each bearing a single funnel-shaped blossom with six segments. In their native Central and South America, often bloom after rains (hence another common name, rain lily). Species described here bloom in late summer and early fall.

White, 2-in. flowers, sometimes stained pink in throat. Clumps of foot-long, grassy leaves. Evergreen in warmer part of range. Usually sold as potted plants; can be planted out at any time.
