ZOYSIA

These Asian natives tend to spread slowly, are fairly deep rooted. Dormant and straw-colored during the winter; turn green in spring. Use for lawns and groundcovers. Plant using sod, sprigs, stolons, or plugs. Mow lawns 1–2 in. high.

Zoysia tenuifolia

Creeping, fine textured, and bumpy. Grows to 3–6 in. high unmowed. Makes a beautiful grassy meadow or gives a mossy Oriental effect in areas impossible to mow or water often. The farther inland, the longer the dormant season.
