ALYSSUM

Mostly native to the Mediterranean region, these mounding plants brighten spring bordersand rock gardens with their cheerful bloom. They thrive in poor, rocky soil as long as it is well drained.

Alyssum montanum

Grows to 8 in. high and 1 1/2 ft. wide, with gray leaves and dense, short clusters of fragrant yellow flowers. The compact and heavy-flowering ‘Berggold’ (‘Mountain Gold’) is the most commonly sold variety.
