This South American pineapple relative grows 4 ft. tall, 4–6 ft. across, with an impressive cluster of 30–50 arching, saw-toothedgreen leaves that arewhitish below. The centerleaves turn bright scarlet inspring or early summer, vividlycontrasting with dark glossygreen leaves below. This givesrise to a spike of white-edged,rose- colored flowers.
Needs warm nights and almost any soil with excellent drainage. Supply light shade in Zone 13. Feed lightly once or twice in summer.
