Ceanothus gloriosus

From 1–1 1/2 ft. high,12–16 ft. wide. Dark green, oval, 1-in. leaves; tough and spiny. Flowers are typically light blue, in 1-in. clusters. Much used in Zones 4–6. Does not do well in summer heat of Zones 7, 14, 18–21.

‘Anchor Bay’

From 1–1 1/2 ft. high, 6–8 ft. wide. Very dense foliage. Flowers are somewhat deeper blue than C. gloriosus. Dense foliage holds down weeds.

‘Heart’s Desire’

From 1 ft. high, 6–8 ft. wide. Very dense foliage with smaller, shiny bronzy green leaves. Pale blue flowers. Dense foliage holds down weeds. Does best along the coast.
