CHORIZEMA

These 2–5-ft.-tall Australianevergreens produce showy clusters of sweet pea-shaped flowers in a blend of orange andpurplish red, late winter throughspring. A lighter crop oftenblooms in fall. Fast growing,with slender, graceful branches. Let them spill over walls or banks, or out of containers. To keep them compact, pinch regularlyand cut back after flowering.Hardy to 24°F (–4;deg;C).

Chorizema cordatum

Grows 3–5 ft. talland wide. Dark green leaveswith small, prickly teeth alongthe edges; red, orange, and yellow flowers. Sometimes erroneously sold as C. ilicifolium.
