DICLIPTERA

Tender perennials with narrow, tubular, two-lipped blossoms. Where stems are not killed to the ground by frost, shear to about 6 in. high in late winter.

Dicliptera sericea

Native to Uruguay. Woody-based perennial grows to 2 ft. high, 1 1/2 ft. wide, with grayish green, softly downy leaves. Summertime clusters of bright orange-red, 1 1/2-in.-long flowers attract hummingbirds. Moderate to regular water.
