Kalmiopsis leachiana

Native to the mountains of southwest Oregon, this shrublet grows to 1 ft. high and 2 ft. wide, and is covered with 1/2-in., rose-pink flowers in early spring; stamens are prominent. Branches are densely clothed with thick, dark green leaves. May rebloom. Roots need soil with perfect drainage and high organic content. ‘Umpqua Form’ is tidy and heavy-blooming.
