MONARDELLA

Aromatic mint-family perennials native to California and adjacent states. Typically sprawling, with two-lipped flowers in clusters at stem ends. All require excellent drainage. Use in wild gardens or rock gardens.

Monardella villosa

Bushy grower to 1–2 ft. high and 1–1 1/2 ft. wide, with furry gray-green leaves and 1 1/2-in. heads of small purplish, pink, or white flowers in late spring and summer. Attracts bees.
