Native to Iran, Afghanistan, and central Asia. Absolutely covered with slender, sinuous spikes of pink or lavender-pink blossoms in summer, this annual starts as a low, 1-ft.-wide rosette of narrow leaves to 8 in. long. Flower spikes that rise to 18 in. are useful fresh or dried in arrangements. Sow seeds in the ground when danger of frost is past, or start seeds earlier indoors.
