Schefflera arboricola

Evergreen, Shrubs, Trees, Decorative fruit or berries


Fast-growing, tropical-lookingplants; long-stalked leavesare divided into leaflets thatspread out like fingers of ahand. Summer flowers (showyin some species) are followedby tiny dark fruits. All needrich, moisture-retentive, well-drainedsoil. Love humidity butare quite tolerant of drier air.Useful near swimming pools.Good container plants for patioor lanai.

Schefflera arboricola

Native to Taiwan. To20 ft. tall with equal or greaterspread, but easily kept smallerwith pruning. Dark green leavesare much smaller than thoseof S. actinophylla, with 3-in.leaflets that broaden towardrounded tips. If plants are setinto the ground with stems atan angle, they’ll continue togrow at that angle—which cangive attractive multistemmedeffects. Yellowish flowers areclustered in flattened, foot-widespheres; they turn bronze withage. Overall, produces a denser,darker, less treelike effect thanS. actinophylla.
