Most are virtually indestructibleplants with long, trailing stems.Usually seen in pots or hangingbaskets, but can be used asgroundcovers—though the mostvigorous, rambling types arelikely to be invasive. On variegatedforms, pinch out growththat reverts to solid green.

From Mexico.Creeping plant to 1–1 1/2 ft. high,1 ft. wide; stems tend to flop.Pointed, rather narrowly ovalleaves are strongly shaded with purple, particularly on undersides.Pale or deep purple flowers(not showy). Pinch backafter bloom. Generally unattractivein winter. Frost may kill tops,but recovery is fast in warmweather. Use as groundcover,for bedding, or in pots. Full sunor light shade. Moderate water.
