Brimeura amethystina

Liliaceae
Bulbs and bulblike plants

European native for rock gardens or naturalizing. In bulb and leaf, resembles small hyacinth, but 10-in. spikes of pendent, bright blue flowers in spring to summer look like bluebells. A pure white form is available. Planted in mid- to late fall (before ground freezes), 2 in. deep and 3 in. apart. In coldest zones, mulch soil after first hard frost. Keep soil moist after planting; continue to water regularly until foliage yellows after bloom. Needs no moisture during dormancy.
