This American species grows 40 ft. tall with a rounded crown that may spread 25 ft. has become nearly extinct in its native range as a result of chestnut blight. Leaves 3-7 in. long with toothed edges. Creamy white flowers in 9-inch catkins appear in summer. Nuts follow in burs. If you can find nursery stock, you'll have the best chance of success with this if you plant in an area where no other chestnuts grow.
