Formerly classified as Bignonia violacea, B. speciosa. Strong-growing vine from Brazil and Argentina will clamber over anything by tendrils; needs support on walls. Each leaf divided into two glossy dark green leaflets with wavy margins. Extended terminal shoots hang down to give a curtain-like effect. Blooms from late spring to fall, when sprays of trumpet-shaped violet, lavender, or pale purple flowers, 3 in. long and nearly as wide at the flare, appear at ends of shoots.
