COTYLEDON

South African natives that vary in size and appearance. Easily grown from cuttings and are handsome in containers, raised beds, or open ground beds. Aphids may attack during bloom season.

Cotyledon orbiculata

Grows quickly to 3 ft. tall, 2 ft. wide. Opposing pairs of fleshy leaves are 2–3 in. long, rounded, gray green to nearly white, narrowly edged red. Green-leafed forms are available. Flower stems rise above plant and carry clusters of orange, bell-shaped, drooping flowers in summer. Good landscaping shrub in mild climates and well-drained soils. Splendid container plant.
