Dalea

Fabaceae (Leguminosae)
Deciduous, Evergreen, Shrubs

Extremely useful and attractive desert shrubs from the southwestern states and northern Mexico. All have finely divided foliage and clusters of small sweet pea–shaped flowers. The taller shrub types should be cut back by half during their first 3 or 4 years to encourage dense growth. Overwatering or summer drought can result in partial leaf drop.

Dalea frutescens

Mounded growth to 3 ft. tall, 4 ft. across, with silvery green, lacy foliage. Purple flower clusters appear from fall to spring.
